A Stormy Camping Trip

Well we thought our good friend NOAA, the weather person, might be wrong when it for casted rain and thunder storms for our weekend at Wallowa Lake. Let me tell you, always trust NOAA.

We arrived mid-afternoon to nice weather to set-up camp and head to the lake for our first paddle in our new sea-worthy kayak. As we jumped in the boat, let me remind you - first time out, and quickly realized we had some things to figure out. I was a ball of nerves and Kevin, calm as a cucumber, got us back to shore so we could figure out our rudder. All the while Pierce, feeling my anxiety sat still and took it all in. Once we had it figured out I calmed down and realized how safe we really were. That was just in time for the storm to roll in and send us back to the car.

We went back to camp and made a yummy dinner, sat by the fire and hit the sack probably around 9:00 pm. It was just as that old bastard NOAA predicted, at 11:00 pm Kevin and I were shaken awake by the thunder rattling between the mountains followed quickly by very bright lightning. This went on for what seemed like an eternity along with rain, rain and more rain. Luckily we have an amazing tent and we were dry as could be. The next morning we all were up playing in the tent when that quickly became boring for Pierce and he wanted to go outside. This wasn't a great option since it was poring down rain, so we packed up not knowing what time it was and jumped in the car for home. When we looked a the clock we realized it was 7:40 am we realized Kevin and I didn't sleep much more then a wink the night before.
Our weekend adventure came to an end too quickly, but maybe next time we will listen to our weather forecaster and pick a better weekend.
